About us

Proud History

Since its founding as the Young Men’s Business Club in 1946, this community group initially filled a void for returning World War II veterans who straddled the age requirements for the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce. Because of a commitment to foster informed participation in an ever-changing community, the group has remained viable for over 75 years.

Founding members were impatient to take action in a stagnant business environment. First, the YMBC instituted weekly meetings and a Citizen of the Year award. In the 1960s and 1970s, the YMBC was active in Birmingham’s change of government and in efforts for racial progress.

Today, no longer all men nor all young, the YMBC Civic Forum continues its commitment to community through The Morgan Project https://www.morganproject.org/and our weekly speakers.

YMBC’s mission is to inform and engage civically minded citizens to improve the Birmingham, Alabama metro area.
