Monday, February 12: IN PERSON, HARBERT CENTER: Howell Raines, Pulitzer Prize winner, former Executive Editor, the New York Times, and author of his new book, Silent Cavalry: How Union Soldiers from Alabama Helped Sherman Burn Atlanta-and Then Got Written Out of History.  Howell is a distinguished Alabamian, graduate of Birmingham-Southern, and informed me that when he worked for the Birmingham Post-Herald, he covered both the Young Men’s Business Club and the Downtown Kiwanis Club. He said the last time he saw Big Jim Folsom, it was when Big Jim spoke to the Young Men’s Business Club in 1964!  He will bring, and be selling and signing, books.  Don’t miss this blockbuster program!  And if you intend to bring a guest (a good program to do that), please let me know several days in advance so I can alert the Harbert Center.  If you miss this program, you deserve whatever terrible things happen to you in life! (My thanks to member Jack Drake, and a big thanks to member Frank McPhillips’ wife, Louise, with an assist from former member Greg Bass, for making this program possible!)
